Primary industry that involves farming the land.
Atmosphere
The air around us.
CBD
Central business district. The centre of a town or city.
Climate
The average weather, usually over a 30 year period of time.
Continent
A large area of the world made up of many countries e.g. Europe, Asia.
Dense
Crowded or compact.
Deposition
The dropping of material which has been eroded and transported.
Desert
An area receiving less than 250mm of precipitation per year.
Energy
The power needed to provide heat & light and to run machines e.g. electricity.
Erosion
The movement of material away from a location by wind, water or ice.
Global warming
Increase in world temperatures due to the enhanced greenhouse effect.
Human geography Area of geography studying people and the built environment.
Industry
An economic activity involved in the production of goods or a service.
LEDC
Less economically developed country.
MEDC
More economically developed country.
Migration
The movement of people from one place to another.
Physical geography Area of geography which studies the natural environment.
Pollution
The material disposed of by humans in the natural environment.
Population
The study of people.
Precipitation
Any sort of water which falls from the air to the ground.
Primary industry
An industry involved with the use of natural resources.
Raw material
Natural resources that are processed to make something else.
Rural
The countryside.
Secondary industry A manufacturing industry that results in the making of a product.
Settlement
A place where people live e.g. town, city, village, hamlet.
Sparse
Not crowded or very few within a selected area.
Sustainable
Using resources in a way in which they will not run out.
Tectonic
The study of earthquakes and volcanoes.
Tertiary industry
A service industry such as insurance or transport.
Urban
Built up areas where people live and work e.g. towns and cities.
Urbanisation
The movement of people towards towns and cities.
Weather
The condition of the atmosphere at any one moment in time.
Weathering
The break up of material by natural processes.
